Tomato Leaves organic candle by BsaB [bee-sah-bee] was my first purchase after moving to the Netherlands.
I needed a completely new fragrance for my new apartment and a new life. I came across the BsaB boutique wandering around the city and immediately fell in love with the overall SPA feeling of the brand, design, the scents and the organic and all-natural philosophy of the brand. Out of 4 available ranges I chose a candle from their Deluxe glass one, just because of the particular and original scent of tomato leaves, that reminds me of childhood weekends on the piece of land, where my grandpa used to plant and harvest amazing tomatoes in his greenhouse. I had really high hopes with this one…
Size and burn time:
Standard size –> 200g/ 7 oz, burns for 45 hours.
Standard size –> £17.00/ € 19.90
I mean, can I just stop right here and stress how amazing this price is for a candle made from sustainable ingredients?!
BsaB is a Thai brand widely available in Australia and New Zealand. Its products are, however, also available in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlans, Switzerland, Ireland, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Malaysia & Japan.
BsaB assures, that its new plant in Thailand “works on 100% solar energy and is therefore 100% self-sufficient”.
The BsaB candles, depending on the range are made of 100% pure soy wax, 100% pure beeswax. 100% natural and chemical-free cotton and cotton seed oil are used to create the wicks and also the brand’s packaging. No synthetic additives are used in any stage of the production process.
The recycled glass containers (either as deluxe tumblers like my Tomato Leaves candle or tumblers made of recycled bottles, still maintaining theirs colour and shape) are protected by a recycled carboard core, all labels are printed with Japanese soy ink and all “plastic” (even the tape) is biodegradable and made from corn.
Apart from recycled glass, BsaB also uses coconut shell and porcelain for their candles.
I am very impressed by the company’s care for an entirely environmentally friendly product and sustainable production process.
The producer on brand’s inspiration:
“Nature soothes our minds, yet awakens our senses and allows our passions to stream freely. Every journey we take rejuvenates us; (…) This uplifting energy that nature provides inspires us to extend this positive vibration to others.”
Subjective scent and scent throw evaluation:
BsaB use 100% pure essential oils with no chemical additions. Any BsaB organic candle as well as the diffusers can be used in aromatherapy.
I really enjoyed this Tomato Leaves organic candle. The scent was not too overpowering, yet definitely clear. By no means did it smell “vegetably”, but very fresh and organic, like young tomato plants moved by the wind (and I know what I am saying – I have just recently planted some :)). So congrats to the producer for perfectly recreating this scent. I must here, however, also add, that the scent creates a beautifull spa vibe: it’s fresh and relaxing and would be a great gift for anybody, not necessarily only for people interested in gardening ;)
The glass tumbler (rather small in size) has slightly rounded edges and fits nicely in your hand, if that’s even a thing ;) The glass is matte, feels and looks very luxurious. I like the simple and elegant small black logo, as well as the fact, that the tumbler comes with a black metal lid, that allows you to enjoy the scent of the candle slowly fading out after extinguishing it, instead of filling the room with the scent of burned wick. The sturdy cardboard core has an organic, yet sleek feel and provides great protection for the candle when transporting,
Thanks to the 100% soy wax the candle burns beautifully, reaching a full melt pool after around 3 hours.
Would I repurchase:
BsaB offers a very broad range of candles – in scents, as well as in formulations and packaging. I will definitely buy some of their other candles, and soon!
I purchased mine in the BsaB brand store on Hartenstraat 4, 1016 CB Amsterdam.
