Some scents almost literally hypnotize, balance your breath and make you drift away in bliss. For me it’s any good quality, heavenly fig scent, like “Heavenly Fig” candle by Riviera Maison.
Each time I reach for a Fig scented candle, I promise myself I’ll try to make it the last one. I definitely loose out on discovering new scent combinations by coming back to this particular one. But what can I say, it was one of those days, when I decided to pass by a Riviera Maison store in The Hague… I haven’t tried their candles yet, but do enjoy this Dutch brand’s aesthetics, so didn’t doubt for a second. Riviera Maison specializes in interior design and furniture. They have created a small collection of 5 scented candles with very universal, classic fragrance combinations and in “easy” aesthetics. Anybody can find something suiting their style. I’d suggest Heavenly Fig.
On the scent
Next to Studion by & Other Stories and Figuier by Diptyque, Heavenly Fig places itself pretty high in the ranks. It’s an earthy, clean fig scent, a bit more woody and with a slight “burned” hue due to the vigorously burning wooden wick. The elongated wooden wick makes a crackling noise, which I fins much nicer and much more soothing than the original, WoodWick one.
Size, burn time and price:
The candles are being sold in only one size –> 250g/ 8.8 oz, burns for 50 hours.
The official price is € 27.95 in the Euro zone. You can take advantage of some special Riviera Maison offers if you become a member of their loyalty programme, but discounts are not particularly frequent, and rather occur around the sale seasons.
Ingredients, burning and scent throw evaluation:
Riviera Maison uses a mix of 95% soy wax, 5% paraffin wax for their candles, which are scented with 5% fragrance oils. It is a beautifully burning candle, with no wax loss whatsoever. It reaches a full melt pool within half an hour, so you can enjoy it as often as you wish. I have used it almost completely, waiting for something to go wrong, something I could complain about. The only thing that is not perfect, is that the wick, being made of wood, is rather hard to shorten without making a mess. It seems to be burning evenly, but it soots slightly (you can only see it by the marks on the matte glass). Other than that, the candle burns almost perfectly, filling out a room. When unlit, you can feel a pleasant slight scent within half a meter from the candle, so place it on your night table or desk and enjoy :)
Where to Buy:
Best, of course, thru Riviera Maison . I do punctually come across some of their products on different web-stores, but it’s rather rare.
Will I repurchase?
I’d definitely like to try their other scents.
